New Delhi, Feb 26 – A fire broke out at PVR Cinemas in Select Citywalk Mall on Wednesday evening during a movie screening, causing panic among cinemagoers. The incident occurred during the 4:15 PM show of the film Chhava, when a corner of the movie screen caught fire.
Eyewitnesses reported that as fire alarms went off, moviegoers rushed towards the exit doors. The cinema hall was immediately evacuated.
According to an official from the Delhi Fire Services, a call regarding the fire was received at 5:42 PM, prompting the dispatch of six fire tenders to the location. Fortunately, the fire was minor, and no injuries were reported. The blaze was successfully contained by 5:55 PM.
Delhi Police confirmed receiving an emergency call from Saket Citywalk Mall at 5:57 PM, stating that people were trapped inside. However, upon reaching the site, officers found that the fire had already been extinguished and no casualties were reported.
A moviegoer, Veer Singh, who was inside the hall during the incident, initially mistook the fire for a scene from the movie. "When smoke started billowing and people began screaming, it became clear that it was real. As soon as the fire alarm went off, cinema staff quickly guided everyone out," he recounted.
