Blaze Contained in an Hour at AJC Bose Road–Beckbagan Crossing
Kolkata, May 17 — A fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at a multistorey commercial building near the AJC Bose Road–Beckbagan crossing in south Kolkata, prompting a swift emergency response. Officials confirmed that the incident, which occurred around 2.55 pm, was brought under control within an hour with the deployment of eight fire tenders. The blaze originated on the fifth floor of the building and is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
According to fire department sources, many offices in the building were shut for the weekend, which helped limit the risk to occupants. Employees present in private establishments at the time were safely evacuated.
This incident comes just weeks after a tragic fire on April 30 that engulfed a hotel in the Burrabazar area of Kolkata, claiming 14 lives. The latest fire underscores the ongoing need for enhanced fire safety measures in high-rise structures across the city.
