A massive fire erupted at a shopping mall in Cuttack's Dolamundai area on Tuesday, destroying goods valued at lakhs of rupees. Prompt action by firefighters prevented further losses, authorities said.


According to local police, the fire broke out in a showroom within the mall that specializes in briefcases and trolley bags. Residents in the area noticed thick smoke billowing from the building and immediately alerted emergency services.

Suspected Short Circuit Causes Inferno​

Though the exact reason behind the fire remains under investigation, preliminary assessments indicate a possible short circuit in an air conditioning unit as the likely trigger. The presence of large quantities of plastic materials used in trolley bags significantly intensified the blaze.

Six fire tenders and a team of 30 firefighters battled relentlessly for over two hours before finally managing to contain the flames. A firefighter at the scene emphasized the critical role of their timely response, stating, "The fire was fierce due to plastic materials, but quick intervention prevented it from spreading to adjacent shops."
