Fire erupts in gynaecology ward of Una hospital, patients safe

Una (HP), Feb 4 (PTI) – A fire broke out in the gynaecology ward of Una Regional Hospital on Tuesday morning, triggering panic among patients, their families, and hospital staff, health officials confirmed.

The incident, caused by a short circuit in the electrical control panel situated between two rooms of the ward, resulted in thick smoke engulfing the area. At the time, over three dozen pregnant women, newborns, and their family members were present in the ward.

However, swift action by Home Guard personnel and the hospital's nursing staff ensured the safe evacuation of all patients and attendants. The affected individuals were quickly relocated to another ward, averting any casualties or injuries.

Senior Medical Officer Dr. Vikas Chauhan, along with other doctors, arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Fire department personnel successfully brought the blaze under control.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Sanjay Mankotia confirmed that the fire, attributed to a short circuit, had been contained. He assured that damaged equipment would be replaced immediately and emphasized the importance of reviewing the hospital's electrical system to prevent such incidents in the future.

Despite the scare, all patients and their family members were reported safe, highlighting the efficiency of the hospital staff and emergency responders in handling the crisis.
