
Kolkata, February 15 A fire broke out in a multi-story building in the Haridevpur area of South Kolkata on Sunday, an official said.
The fire, which started in the apartment complex at 10:40 am, was brought under control by five fire tenders by noon, he added, noting that there were no reports of any injuries.
Personnel from disaster management and civil emergency services also reached the scene and took steps to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent flats.
The fire was contained to a single apartment on the fifth floor and did not spread to other parts of the building, the official said.
The residents of the apartment were not present inside when the fire broke out, as they had gone to a nearby temple to offer prayers, he added.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still being investigated.
