Mumbai, Feb 2 (PTI) – A luxury Mercedes car lost control and plowed into five people at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Sunday morning, leaving two foreign nationals and three airport crew members injured, officials said.
The accident occurred in the parking area of Terminal 2 (T2) when the car’s driver, identified as Parshuram Chincholappa Dadanavre (34), a resident of Navi Mumbai, mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to surge forward over a speed breaker at Gate No. 1.
“The injured include two foreign nationals, who are currently receiving treatment at Nanavati Hospital, while three airport crew members are undergoing medical care at Cooper Hospital,” a Sahar police station official confirmed.
Following the incident, authorities arrested Dadanavre for rash driving and negligence, and the Mercedes has been impounded as part of the ongoing investigation.
In an official statement, a CSMIA spokesperson said, "This morning at CSMIA, a driver lost control of his car in T2’s departure lane, injuring five people. The airport medical team promptly provided first aid, and the injured were admitted to the hospital. We are working closely with the police and other teams to ensure the safety of passengers and smooth operations."
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, ensuring that safety protocols are reviewed to prevent such incidents in the future.
