Background: Ongoing Unrest and Security Measures
Manipur has been reeling under ethnic tensions since May 2023, when clashes erupted between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. Over 260 people have lost their lives and thousands have been displaced due to the violence. In light of the ongoing unrest, security forces have intensified search operations across the state. The Centre imposed President’s Rule in Manipur on February 13, 2025, following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The state assembly, though still within its official tenure until 2027, has been placed under suspended animation.
These arrests mark a crucial step in restoring order in the troubled region and curbing militant activity and organized crime.
