Newly Promoted Ranger Mauled in Jogi Mahal Zone, Tiger Lingered Near Body

Jaipur, May 11 – A forest ranger was tragically killed in a tiger attack on Sunday at the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan’s Sawaimadhopur district, according to forest department officials.

The incident occurred in Zone 3 of the reserve, near the Jogi Mahal area, where Ranger Devendra Chaudhary was performing his duty. Chaudhary had arrived at the location from the Gudha check post on Sunday afternoon. He had recently been promoted and was entrusted with additional responsibilities, including oversight of Jogi Mahal.

While on patrol, he was suddenly attacked by a tiger. Officials said the animal remained close to the body for approximately 20 minutes, which delayed rescue and retrieval efforts. Eventually, the body was recovered and transported to the district hospital.

According to officials, Chaudhary suffered deep bite and claw injuries on the neck, confirming the fatal nature of the mauling.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of forest personnel working in close proximity to wildlife. Forest officials are expected to conduct an inquiry into the circumstances and review existing safety protocols.
