Feb 13, Srinagar: Former National Conference leader and former Food Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon, a prominent political figure from Kargil, died on Friday, triggering grief across political circles in Jammu and Kashmir.

The news of his death was conveyed to the Legislative Assembly by National Conference legislator Tanveer Sadiq. Members of the House expressed sorrow and paid tributes to Akhoon's contributions to public life.

Akhoon, who hailed from the Sangra village in Kargil, was regarded as an experienced politician who represented Kargil and the Ladakh region during his years in public office. He served as the food minister and was considered a key voice from the mountainous district during successive political phases of the erstwhile state.
