Islamabad, March 3: Pakistan’s former Prime Minister and Awam Pakistan Party (APP) convener Shahid Khaqqan Abbasi has urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to undertake significant reforms, warning that without these changes, Pakistan will face substantial hurdles on the path to progress, according to Geo News.
Speaking during a media interaction on Sunday, Abbasi acknowledged PTI’s significant public support but highlighted concerns regarding the party's approach during its four-year governance. He stressed that persisting with past strategies will yield no advantage for PTI or the nation.
“Imran Khan should deeply reflect upon the mistakes he has made, and his party must commit to comprehensive reforms,” Abbasi emphasized, underscoring that the subsequent government had magnified PTI's errors twofold.
US Non-intervention in Pakistan’s Domestic Politics
Abbasi, clarifying the international stance, mentioned specifically that the United States would not intervene in issues relating to imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan. "The US is unlikely to interfere with domestic matters involving the jailed PTI founder," Abbasi clearly stated.Need for Political Unity and Constitutional Adherence
Calling for political unity, Abbasi remarked, “We are striving for consensus on opposition viewpoints, including discussions about releasing political prisoners. Resolving national issues necessitates adherence to constitutional procedures and established democratic principles.”Addressing Pakistan’s political history, Abbasi criticized the prevailing political hypocrisy, stating, “Our attitude has been to cyclically empower one party or another. Ending this hypocrisy will ultimately provide relief to PTI's founder as well.”
Nawaz Sharif’s Decision on Nuclear Tests
Reflecting on critical historical decisions, Abbasi praised former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his boldness in conducting nuclear tests, asserting Pakistan had no alternative after India’s nuclear advancements.Balancing Global Relations Crucial for Pakistan
Discussing international politics, Abbasi outlined the importance of Pakistan’s balanced foreign policy amid increasing geopolitical tensions. He suggested that while Europe faces threats from Russia, the US remains occupied with diplomatic negotiations rather than direct actions.Abbasi recommended Pakistan could strategically serve as a bridge between Russia and Europe, fostering dialogue and stability. He further underscored that despite continuous US pressure to curtail Pakistan-China ties, Beijing has consistently encouraged Islamabad’s open engagement with all nations.
Abbasi’s statements come amidst Pakistan’s intense political debates, highlighting the necessity of self-reflection and strategic reforms within PTI for broader national growth and stability.
