Detention Follows Intensified Police Patrols to Curb Illegal Immigration
New Delhi, May 11 – Four Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended for illegally residing in southwest Delhi’s Vasant Vihar locality, officials confirmed on Sunday.The individuals—identified as Arif (19), Asadul (30), Asia Begum (47), and Zuhur Ali (80)—were found staying in the country without valid travel or residency documents. Authorities have since transferred them to a detention centre to initiate deportation proceedings.
According to Delhi Police, the arrests were made during an intensified patrolling operation aimed at detecting and deterring illegal immigration in the area.
During one such patrol, officers spotted three men and a woman exhibiting suspicious behaviour. When asked to stop, the group attempted to flee the scene but was quickly pursued and detained.
Upon interrogation, the four individuals disclosed that they were from Phoolwadi village in Bangladesh. Police confirmed their nationality after verifying identity documents recovered from Asia Begum and Zuhur Ali. Both were found to be residing in India without a valid visa or permit.
Following their apprehension, the individuals were taken to Safdarjung Hospital for mandatory medical checks and then handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to commence the deportation process.
Officials stated that surveillance and enforcement measures in the area will continue to prevent similar incidents.
