Ranchi, Feb 5 (PTI): The district administration of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, has formed a four-member committee to investigate the tragic collapse of a high mast lighting tower, which led to the deaths of two women. The incident occurred on Tuesday when the tower fell onto an auto-rickshaw, causing the fatalities and injuring five others.
Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri has directed the committee to conduct an on-site inspection and submit its findings promptly.
The victims, two women, were killed after the lighting tower fell on a stationary auto-rickshaw, which was carrying eight passengers. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment in a local hospital.
The committee tasked with the investigation includes the district land acquisition officer and the executive engineer of the road construction department (rural), according to an official statement.
In response to the incident, local residents expressed their outrage over what they claimed was negligence by the authorities. In protest, they blocked traffic for about five hours on Tuesday, demanding compensation for the families of the deceased.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to report on the findings soon.
