Arrests Made Across Imphal East, West, and Thoubal Districts​

Imphal, May 18 – Security forces arrested four militants affiliated with various proscribed groups during coordinated operations in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts, police said on Sunday. The arrests, made on Saturday, were linked to extortion and recruitment efforts by these outlawed organisations.

Militants Linked to KCP, KYKL, UNLF, and PLA​

In Thoubal district, a cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) was apprehended from Leirongthel Pitra. He was allegedly involved in extortion activities in the region. A handgun, along with ammunition, was recovered from his possession during the operation.

From Imphal East’s Khabeisoi area, a member of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) was taken into custody. Authorities stated that the individual was engaged in the recruitment of new cadres into the organisation.

In Imphal West, a United National Liberation Front (Pambei) operative was arrested in Khumbong. He was allegedly extorting money from truck drivers operating along NH-37 at Khumbong Bazar.

Another arrest took place in Thoubal, where a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cadre involved in extortion was detained from Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leirak.

Weapons and Explosives Seized in Bishnupur​

In a separate search operation in the Bishnupur district, security personnel recovered a cache of arms and explosives from the foothill area of Kumbi Setupur. The seized items included two SMG carbines with empty magazines, a modified CMG with one empty magazine, a double-barrel gun (DBBL), a 9 mm pistol, five PEK explosives, and other materials.

Police confirmed ongoing operations to curb militant activities across the region, focusing on dismantling extortion networks and disrupting recruitment drives.
