Imphal, April 5 – In a major crackdown against insurgency, security forces in Manipur arrested four militants affiliated with two proscribed outfits across Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Imphal East districts, according to police reports on Saturday.
Abduction Case Leads to Rescue and Arrest
Two members of the banned United National Liberation Front (Pambei faction) were apprehended on Friday in Nambol, Bishnupur district. The arrests were made in connection with the abduction of Laitonjam Dilip Singh, a 47-year-old resident of Patsoi Part-4 in Imphal West.Following reports of his abduction from his residence by unidentified individuals, police launched a cordon and search operation. During the raid, the two UNLF(P) militants were arrested from a house where Singh was also successfully rescued.
KCP (PWG) Cadres Held with Weapons
In a separate operation on the same day, security personnel nabbed an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) from Khongjom Khebaching area in Thoubal district. The militant was reportedly involved in extortion activities in the region. Authorities recovered an M20 pistol, a magazine, and two live rounds from his possession.A subsequent follow-up operation led to the arrest of another KCP (PWG) cadre from Khurai Kongpal in Imphal East. A 9mm pistol, a magazine, and six live rounds were seized from him.
Arms Recovered from Laisoi Hill Area
Meanwhile, security forces conducted an extensive search in the Laisoi hill areas of Bishnupur district, resulting in the recovery of a cache of weapons and ammunition. The seized items included:- One SLR rifle with an empty magazine
- One carbine machine gun
- One .303 rifle
- One double-barrel gun
- 48 rounds of ammunition
- Two grenades
- Two bulletproof jackets
