New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) – National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval emphasized the importance of the free flow of thoughts in preventing conflicts related to religious identities. Speaking at the launch of the Hindi version of Turkish-American scholar Ahmet T. Kuru’s book, Islam Authoritarianism: Underdevelopment - A Global and Historical Comparison, Doval highlighted the need for introspection by states and societies as a crucial tool for conflict resolution.
Addressing a packed audience at the New Delhi World Book Fair, Doval remarked that state-religion conflicts are not exclusive to Islam, though historical contexts like Abbasid rule offered clarity on the relationship between the state and the clergy. His comments were aligned with the broader themes explored in Kuru’s book, which examines the interplay of religion, governance, and socio-economic development across history.
The book’s Hindi edition has been published by the Khusro Foundation.
Also present at the event was former Union minister MJ Akbar, who underscored the significance of Sufism within Islamic traditions. "Sufism is practical because it fosters a relationship that is not hostile," Akbar stated, advocating for its role in promoting peace and harmony.
Doval’s insights come at a time when discussions on religion and governance are increasingly shaping global discourse. His call for an open exchange of ideas serves as a reminder of the role dialogue and critical thinking play in ensuring social and political stability.
