Srinagar, February 27: Higher reaches of Kashmir witnessed moderate to heavy snowfall on Thursday, while the plains, including Srinagar, received intermittent rain, according to officials. The fresh snowfall, which continued in many areas throughout the morning, has brought a renewed charm to the region’s popular tourist destinations.
Scenic locations such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam were blanketed in fresh snow, much to the delight of visiting tourists. Other areas that experienced snowfall include Razdan Top and Gurez in Bandipora, Sadhna Top in Handwara, Kupwara district, and Mughal Road in Shopian. Additionally, Zojila Pass, Sinthan Top, and the Amarnath Cave received fresh snowfall, adding to the winter allure of the region.
However, the snowfall has also led to temporary disruptions. Several inter-district roads in higher-altitude regions, including the Srinagar-Leh highway, were closed due to accumulated snow. Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained open for traffic, ensuring connectivity between key locations.
The meteorological department has forecasted light to moderate rain or snowfall across most areas, with some places experiencing isolated heavy falls until Friday noon. Weather conditions are expected to improve afterward, bringing relief to travelers and residents alike.
