Streaming Platforms Like Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar Urged to Act in National Interest
Mumbai, May 16 – The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called upon major OTT platforms including Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar to cease streaming Turkish shows in India. The move comes in response to Turkiye’s diplomatic stance favoring Pakistan, especially following recent cross-border tensions with India. In a statement released on Thursday, FWICE emphasized its commitment to the nation's sovereignty and the interests of the Indian entertainment industry. The union, representing professionals from 36 crafts across the media and entertainment sector, said that continuing to stream Turkish content undermines national integrity.
“Turkey Supports Anti-India Activities,” Says FWICE
FWICE expressed “serious concern and strong objection” to the ongoing promotion of Turkish series on Indian streaming platforms. The organization stated:The statement underlined that allowing widespread access to Turkish content could indirectly support a nation that does not respect India’s territorial integrity.“Turkey has consistently extended diplomatic and political support to Pakistan on matters that are detrimental to India’s sovereignty and national interest, including on sensitive issues such as Kashmir.”
Appeal to Government for Action
FWICE also urged the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to take appropriate measures to either ban or limit the streaming of Turkish shows and films in India.“Such a step will not only send a strong message globally but also encourage the promotion of Indian content and support the large workforce of our domestic entertainment industry,” the organization noted.
