
A training programme on the National Pest Surveillance System was organized in Ganderbal by the Chief Agriculture Officer in collaboration with the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre, Srinagar, to enhance pest surveillance skills, digital reporting, and crop protection advisory services.
Srinagar, February 16: A training programme on the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) was organized by the Chief Agriculture Officer, Ganderbal, in collaboration with the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre, Srinagar, at the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Office, Ganderbal.
The programme aimed to enhance the technical knowledge and practical skills of field functionaries engaged in pest surveillance and management across the district. Agriculture Extension Officers of the Agriculture Department, Ganderbal, participated in the training.
Dr. Haroon Rashid Hakla, Assistant Plant Protection Officer at CIPMC Srinagar under the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, conducted a hands-on session. He demonstrated pest identification techniques, surveillance methodologies, and digital data entry on the NPSS platform, emphasizing its role in generating early warnings and timely advisories for farmers.
The session was attended by Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Ganderbal Arif Khurshid, SMS (SDL) Zahoor Ahmad Dar, and SMS (SDL) Nazir Ahmad Dar, who highlighted the importance of trained field staff in strengthening crop protection and advisory services.
Abir Shankhari, APPO (Weed Science), CIPMC Srinagar, also shared technical inputs during the programme.
The training concluded with an interactive session, with participants appreciating the practical orientation aimed at bolstering pest surveillance and crop protection efforts in the district.
