GJC Urges Gem and Jewellery Industry to Halt Trade with Turkiye and Azerbaijan in Solidarity with Operation Sindoor

Mumbai, May 16 – The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) has called on the Indian gem and jewellery industry to immediately suspend all business transactions with Turkiye and Azerbaijan as a mark of solidarity with 'Operation Sindoor'.

The appeal follows Turkiye’s public support for Pakistan after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which led to the tragic loss of 26 Indian civilian lives. The GJC issued a strong statement on Friday urging industry-wide participation in the trade boycott.

Industry Asked to Put Nation Above Commerce

Rajesh Rokde, Chairman of the GJC, emphasized that the Indian gem and jewellery sector must prioritize national interests during crises.
“The Indian gem and jewellery sector stands united in support of the nation. It is imperative that our industry sets a strong example by prioritising the country over commerce,” Rokde said.
He called upon all jewellers, manufacturers, traders, and wholesalers to cease transactions with Turkiye and Azerbaijan, reinforcing the industry's commitment to the nation’s sovereignty and security.

Industry-Wide Solidarity with Operation Sindoor

Rokde further stated that this collective step underscores the industry's role in supporting national causes and reflects its resilience and loyalty to the country.
“By halting trade, we send a clear message of unity and resolve, reinforcing our industry's role as a pillar of national pride,” he added.
The GJC's move is expected to galvanize support across the sector, as businesses align with the national sentiment during Operation Sindoor.
