Panaji, February 27 – The Goa tourism department has issued show-cause notices to 99 beach shack operators for allegedly breaching the state's shack policy, an official confirmed on Thursday.
The department, which allots beach shacks to locals under the Goa Shack Policy, conducted a surprise inspection revealing widespread violations. A total of 80 shacks in North Goa and 19 in South Goa were found to be non-compliant with the policy guidelines.
According to a departmental spokesperson, the violations included instances of subletting, among other infractions. “Following the inspection, show-cause notices have been issued to the operators found violating the policy,” the official stated.
Shack operators will have the opportunity to present their side before further action is taken. The department also emphasized that regular inspections will continue, ensuring strict compliance with regulations in the future.
The crackdown highlights the government’s efforts to maintain transparency and uphold the integrity of beach shack operations, a crucial part of Goa’s tourism industry.
