Government Employee, Family Found Dead in Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund; Murder-Suicide Suspected.webp

Mahasamund, May 14 — A government employee, his wife, and their two young children were found dead at their official residence in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district on Wednesday, in what police suspect to be a case of murder-suicide.

The deceased have been identified as Basant Patel (41), his wife Bharti (38), daughter Sejal (11), and son Kiyansh (4). Patel was employed as a peon in the tribal welfare department at the Bagbahra development block office.

According to police, the family resided in a government apartment located in the Housing Board Colony of Bagbahara town. Concern arose among neighbors when there was no movement from the household well into the morning. Upon being alerted, police officers arrived and forcibly entered the residence.

Inside, Patel was discovered hanging from the ceiling, while his wife and children were found lifeless on a bed. Preliminary investigations suggest that Patel may have poisoned his family before taking his own life.

Authorities have initiated a detailed probe to ascertain the motive and exact sequence of events.
