Bhubaneswar, February 13 The Odisha Vigilance has arrested a junior clerical staff member on the charge of misappropriating government funds worth Rs 2.38 crore, an official statement said on Friday.

Subrat Kumar Behera, a junior assistant in the office of the Angul chief district medical officer, was arrested and produced before the court of the Vigilance special judge on Thursday.

The Vigilance officials conducted raids on Behera's properties at five locations following allegations of misappropriation of government funds amounting to Rs 2.38 crore by him, it said.

A three-story building in Angul, 450 gm of gold, bank deposits of Rs 36 lakh, two cars, three motorcycles, and household items worth around Rs 17 lakh were seized from his possession, it said.

He was found to possess assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, amounting to 205 per cent.

"Behera was charged with allegedly misappropriating Rs 2.38 crore by drawing an excess amount towards his salary from 2017 to 2025 while serving as a junior assistant in the office of the CDMO, Angul, and crediting the same to his salary account," the statement said.

During the investigation, the anti-corruption wing found that Behera fraudulently drew a basic salary ranging from Rs 3.36 lakh to Rs 7.36 lakh from 2022 to 2025, and dearness allowance ranging from Rs 9.05 lakh to Rs 14.06 lakh from March to June 2021.
