Minister Javid Ahmad Dar informed the Legislative Assembly today that the Jammu and Kashmir Government is reviewing a proposal to declare new areas suitable for tourism across the Union Territory, including prominent locations in the Bani constituency such as Bani town, Lowang, and Sarthal.
The Minister was responding to a question raised by MLA Bani, Dr. Rameshwar Singh, on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. In response to a follow-up question, Dar stated that the government is committed to strengthening tourism infrastructure, particularly in the Jammu Division, to enhance the visitor experience and promote sustainable tourism.
He stated that efforts are underway to establish rest houses and tourist huts at key destinations to provide better facilities for visitors and encourage longer stays. "Improving basic infrastructure is essential for unlocking the tourism potential of emerging destinations," the Minister said.
The Minister further informed the House that, at the direction of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, a Winter Carnival was organized in Bani on February 8, 2026, as part of the government's broader initiative to promote tourism development in the region. The event aimed to showcase the area's natural beauty, cultural heritage, and tourism potential.
Reiterating the government's commitment, Javid Ahmad Dar said that identifying and developing new tourist destinations would help boost the local economy, create employment opportunities, and position Jammu and Kashmir as a premier travel destination on the national and international tourism map.
