Ramgarh (Jharkhand), February 8 Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar attended a mass wedding ceremony organized by Hazaribag MP Manish Jaiswal at the Sidhu-Kanhu ground here on Sunday.
Gangwar offered his blessings to couples with disabilities, orphans, and those from financially weak backgrounds who got married at the ceremony, which also featured a musical performance by North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari.
In his address, Gangwar praised Jaiswal for organizing the ceremony for 101 pairs of bride and groom from poor families in different villages.
"Society needs such initiatives for women empowerment," the governor said.
Tiwari said arranging the marriage of 101 poor couples is an example of women empowerment.
"Each of the newly married couples has been provided e-rickshaws for their livelihood after marriage, along with 22 household appliances, including a refrigerator and a steel cabinet," he said.
Rajani Kumari, one of the brides at the ceremony, expressed her gratitude to the MP and said that she belonged to a poor Dalit family and they could not afford the wedding expenses.
