The government has approved the export of 25 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat, along with an additional 5 LMT of wheat products, to stabilize domestic markets and ensure profitable returns for producers. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution stated that this decision was made after a thorough assessment of the current supply and price situation. It added that the government's decision to allow the export of 25 LMT of wheat and 5 LMT of wheat products will help stabilize domestic prices, improve market liquidity, ensure efficient stock rotation, and strengthen farmers' incomes. The ministry also noted that the private sector currently holds approximately 75 LMT of wheat stocks for the 2025-26 period, which is nearly 32 LMT higher than the corresponding period last year. Furthermore, wheat acreage for the Rabi 2026 season is estimated to be around 334 lakh hectares, compared to over 328 lakh hectares last year.
