New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI): The 11th round of commercial coal mine auctions has garnered significant interest, with a total of 70 bids received for 20 out of the 27 blocks on offer, the Ministry of Coal announced on Monday.
The latest auction round included seven mines that were carried over from the previous auction, reflecting continued demand for coal resources. The bids were opened by the Nominated Authority of the Ministry of Coal, which highlighted the strong participation from industry players.
According to the ministry's statement, the response from bidders has been remarkable, with 46 companies submitting bids. Notably, more than 15 new companies, including a subsidiary of Coal India, have entered the commercial coal mining space for the first time, signaling growing interest in the sector.
Among the key participants in this round were major industry players such as Jindal Power Ltd, Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd, and JSW Steel Ltd.
This strong response underscores the increasing competition and investment in India’s coal sector, driven by the government’s push for commercial coal mining to boost domestic production and reduce dependency on imports.
