New Delhi, April 1 — India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection for March 2025 climbed to ₹1.96 lakh crore, marking a 9.9% year-on-year increase, according to official government data released on Tuesday.

Domestic GST Revenue Sees Steady Growth

Revenue from domestic transactions, including the import of services, rose by 8.8%, reaching ₹1.49 lakh crore. This reflects robust consumption and continued compliance improvements in the domestic market.

Import-Linked GST Surges Over 13%

GST revenue from imported goods surged by 13.56%, totaling ₹46,919 crore. The spike indicates strong import activity, contributing significantly to the overall tax collections for the month.

Refund Payouts Jump 41%

During the month of March, total GST refunds disbursed amounted to ₹19,615 crore — a substantial 41% increase compared to the same period last year. The rise in refunds is attributed to faster processing and higher claims amid growing export and input credit settlements.

Net GST Revenue Stands at ₹1.76 Lakh Crore

After accounting for refunds, the net GST revenue for March stood at ₹1.76 lakh crore. This reflects a 7.3% increase over the net collections reported in March 2024.

The consistent rise in GST collections highlights sustained economic activity and improved tax compliance ahead of the new fiscal year.
