Navsari (Gujarat), May 11 — In a case of alleged medical negligence, three individuals, including an anaesthetist and a nurse, have been arrested after a school principal died following a surgery at a private hospital in Navsari district.
The deceased, 54-year-old Arjun Rathod, was undergoing treatment at Damania Hospital after sustaining injuries from a fall in November 2024. He died during post-operative care, prompting a detailed investigation by a committee from Navsari Civil Hospital.
Arrests Made for Alleged Medical Negligence
Based on the probe report, the police arrested Dr Bharat Nayak (anaesthetist), nurse Nirali Nayaka, and hospital manager Imesh Gandhi, who is also a trustee of the hospital. They were charged under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita’s sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 54 (presence of abettor when crime is committed).DySP BV Gohil confirmed that the arrests followed an FIR registered at the Gandevi police station on May 10.
Fatal Injection Cited as Cause of Death
According to the police, Rathod was admitted on November 6, 2024, after he suffered injuries from a fall at his residence. He underwent an orthopaedic surgery and was later moved to the ICU. During recovery, Dr Nayak allegedly directed the nurse to administer a 0.4 ML TERmin injection, which reportedly led to a dangerous drop in Rathod’s blood pressure and oxygen levels.
