Gurugram, March 1: Gurugram Police have apprehended a man accused of orchestrating a fraudulent travel package scheme, duping multiple individuals of approximately ₹50 lakh. The accused, identified as Suryakant Jha, was arrested from Mohan Garden, Delhi, officials confirmed.

Accused Lured Victims with Fake Travel Packages

According to the police, Jha allegedly posed as a travel agent, promising luxurious foreign trips to unsuspecting customers. Victims transferred money for international travel packages, only to be left in the lurch when the company’s representatives stopped responding to calls and emails.

The scam came to light when a victim lodged a complaint at the Udyog Vihar police station on December 11, 2024. The complainant had booked a Thailand tour package in November 2024 and transferred the required funds. However, after receiving the money, the travel company’s executives went incommunicado.

Repeat Offender with Prior Arrest

Police investigations revealed that Jha was previously arrested in 2019 for similar fraudulent activities. He had set up an office under the guise of a travel company to collect payments from unsuspecting customers.

Following the latest complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Udyog Vihar police station, leading to Jha’s arrest.

Ongoing Investigation

A spokesperson for Gurugram Police stated that further investigations are underway to identify more victims and accomplices, if any. Authorities are also examining whether Jha was running similar scams in other locations.

Victims who may have fallen prey to this fraudulent travel scheme are encouraged to report their cases to the police.
