Habitual Bovine Smuggler Detained Under PSA in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur.webp

Jammu, May 17 — Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have detained a man identified as a habitual bovine smuggler under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in Udhampur district, police said on Saturday.

According to a police spokesperson, Totu Din, a resident of Katwalt village in Ramnagar, has repeatedly been involved in illegal bovine transportation despite several First Information Reports (FIRs) and prior arrests.

The Udhampur District Magistrate issued the PSA detention order against Totu Din. He has since been taken into custody and lodged in jail.

The Public Safety Act is an administrative law in Jammu and Kashmir that allows authorities to detain individuals without formal charges or trial for up to two years in certain cases.

“Despite repeated legal action, Totu Din persisted in smuggling activities, which posed a serious threat to public order and peace,” the police spokesperson stated.

The detention is part of ongoing efforts by the administration to curb illegal cattle smuggling in the region.
