Haryana Assembly Witnesses Light-Hearted Exchange Between Anil Vij and Bhupinder Hooda

Minister Breaks Into Song Amid Banter, Sparks Laughter in House

Chandigarh, March 26 — A rare moment of levity unfolded in the Haryana Assembly on Wednesday when BJP minister Anil Vij and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda exchanged playful jibes, with Vij even breaking into song—eliciting waves of laughter across the House.

The light-hearted episode came towards the end of the day's proceedings. As a set of bills was being passed, Hooda stood up and quipped at Vij, “You will not understand this,” adding in Hindi, “Tere jaise nahi samajh sakte (people like you won't understand).” His remark set the tone for the banter.

In response, Vij, a seven-term legislator, quickly retorted, “Samajh toh mujhe sab aa gaya, mein gane ke madhyam se batana chahta hu (I have fully understood, but I want to express it through a song).” He then began singing in a satirical tone, “Humne unko bhi chup-chup ke jaate dekha un galiyon mein...”, drawing laughter from all corners of the House.

Continuing in a playful Haryanvi tone, Vij added, “Sab pata maine, sab jaanu main (I know everything, I understand everything),” pointing teasingly at Hooda.

Not one to be outdone, Hooda responded in jest, “When Vij will speak, we will put fingers in our ears,” prompting further amusement.

Political Context Behind the Laughter

Before the humorous exchange, Vij, who currently handles the energy, transport, and labour portfolios, took a more serious tone, recalling the functioning of the House during the Congress-led government under Hooda.

He alleged that opposition members were suspended from the Assembly during bill discussions under the previous Congress regime and were often not allowed to speak.

“I have been an MLA for 25 years and seen many bills being passed. I witnessed Bhupinder Singh Hooda's tenure as well and saw how bills were passed then. Back then, we were not even allowed to speak,” Vij remarked.

Citing a particular incident, he recounted, “Once, a bill was about to be introduced. The Congress knew I would get up to oppose it. But I decided to remain silent. I didn't stand up, I didn't speak. Still, they threw me out of the House!”

While the exchange highlighted deep political undercurrents, it ended on a jovial note—reminding everyone that humour still finds space within the corridors of power.
