Chandigarh, Feb 2 (PTI) – The Haryana government has announced a paid holiday on February 5 for all public offices, academic institutions, boards, and corporations in the state, enabling employees who are registered voters in Delhi to participate in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
This decision is in line with Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, and Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (amended in 1996), which ensures that eligible voters can exercise their right to vote without work-related constraints, an official statement confirmed.
The provision extends beyond government employees, also covering workers from factories, shops, and private establishments in Haryana who are registered voters in Delhi. They too are entitled to a paid leave for casting their vote in the 70-member Delhi Assembly elections.
The polling is scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to promoting electoral participation and ensuring that citizens can fulfill their democratic duties without financial loss.
