Rohtak, March 3: Haryana Police announced on Monday the arrest of one accused linked to the murder of Congress party worker Himani Narwal, whose body was tragically found stuffed inside a suitcase in Rohtak on Saturday.
The shocking discovery prompted the Haryana Police to immediately form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) dedicated to unraveling the case. Confirming the latest development, a senior Haryana Police official stated, "We have arrested one accused and further investigations are ongoing."
Family Demands Justice, Refuses Cremation
In a poignant protest, Narwal’s family had refused to cremate her body on Sunday, demanding swift justice and the arrest of her killers first. The victim, a resident of Vijay Nagar in Rohtak, was reportedly an active Congress member pursuing a law degree, contributing prominently to the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra.Family Alleges Possible Political Jealousy
Narwal's mother, Savita, accompanied by her son Jatin, expressed suspicion regarding the motives behind her daughter's murder, indicating that internal rivalry within the party might have played a role. Speaking to reporters, she said, "It could be anyone in the party who was jealous about her rise or it could be anyone else." Savita further shared that her last conversation with Himani was on February 27, after which the young woman’s phone was mysteriously switched off."Till the time my daughter does not get justice, we won't cremate her," Savita firmly stated, highlighting the family's determination for accountability.
Congress Leaders Demand Swift Action
Expressing grief and concern, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda communicated directly with Rohtak's Superintendent of Police, urging prompt action and speedy justice for Narwal’s family. He emphasized the responsibility of the police and government to ensure justice swiftly.Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Rohtak, B.B. Batra, praised Narwal as a dedicated and active worker who frequently participated in party activities. He strongly condemned the crime, asserting, "Those who have committed the crime should be severely punished."
Police investigations continue, with the SIT actively pursuing leads to uncover all involved in this gruesome crime.
