Chandigarh, Feb 3 (PTI) – Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij on Monday personally led an inspection drive against overloaded vehicles along the Ambala-Naraingarh road, aiming to curb violations that contribute to road accidents.
Accompanied by officials from his department, Vij halted multiple trucks to check for overloading and ensure compliance with transport regulations. According to an official statement, 12 vehicles were found operating with incomplete documentation during the crackdown.
Vij highlighted his recent visit to Rajasthan, where he urged the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to take strict action against overloaded vehicles. Extending this effort to Haryana, he instructed the Ambala RTA to intensify checks, emphasizing the dangers posed by such violations.
"Overloaded vehicles are a major cause of accidents. To ensure compliance, I decided to conduct an inspection myself," Vij stated.
During the operation, officials discovered numerous violations, including a dozen vehicles without proper permits, drivers lacking valid licenses, and overweight trucks. Additionally, one driver was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and was sent for a medical test, the release mentioned.
Vij issued a stern warning, asserting, "As long as I am here, no vehicle without proper documents will be allowed on the road." He further directed officials to set up permanent checkpoints to scrutinize vehicle documentation and enforce compliance.
The transport minister assured that such operations will continue, reinforcing the state's commitment to road safety and regulatory enforcement.
