Bhubaneswar Sees First 40°C Day of the Season as Mercury Soars Statewide
Bhubaneswar, May 10 — Odisha is reeling under a scorching heatwave, with 16 locations across the state recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius on Saturday, according to official reports.For the first time this season, the capital city Bhubaneswar crossed the 40-degree threshold, registering a high of 40.2°C.
Western Odisha remained the worst affected, with Sambalpur emerging as the hottest place at a blistering 42.7°C. Close behind were Hirakud at 41.7°C and Jharsuguda at 41.6°C, intensifying concerns about the rising heat index in the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that heatwave conditions are likely to persist across the state until May 14.
Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions.
As temperatures continue to rise, the state is bracing for more intense heat in the coming days.
