Himachal BJP Hails Union Budget 2025-26 as Roadmap to 'Viksit Bharat'

Shimla, Feb 2 (PTI): The Himachal Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has welcomed the Union Budget 2025-26, calling it a significant step towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). The party lauded the relief in income tax and various developmental initiatives, asserting that they would benefit the state immensely.

State BJP Media Incharge Karan Nanda, addressing a press conference on Sunday, highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's focus on GYNN (Garib, Yuva, Annadata, and Nari) and how the budget reflects priorities in healthcare, infrastructure, Make-in-India, employment, and innovation.

Key Announcements Benefitting Himachal Pradesh

  • Income Tax Relief: Individuals earning below ₹12 lakh per annum will be exempted from income tax, leading to a savings of ₹80,000 per year.
  • Senior Citizen Benefits: The exemption on earnings from interest income has been raised from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh, providing much-needed relief to the elderly.
  • Jal Jeevan Mission: The budget allocation for this crucial water supply scheme has been increased to ₹67,000 crore, ensuring better access to clean drinking water.
  • Tourism Boost: Fifty locations across India will be developed into key tourist destinations, likely boosting Himachal’s tourism sector.
  • Interest-Free Loans to States: The provision of 50-year interest-free loans to states is expected to significantly ease financial burdens.
  • Medical Education Expansion: A massive increase of 75,000 MBBS seats in medical colleges will strengthen healthcare infrastructure.
  • Education & Innovation: Atal Tinkering Labs will be set up in 50,000 government schools, fostering a culture of innovation among students.
  • Affordable Medicines: The cost of cancer treatment and other life-saving drugs is set to decrease, benefiting patients across the country.

BJP's Vision for a Developed India

Nanda emphasized that these measures would uplift the middle class, promote economic growth, and drive technological innovation, bringing India closer to the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

With these reforms, the BJP believes the budget strikes a balance between social welfare and economic progress, making it a game-changer for India's future.
