Shimla, Feb 3 (PTI) – In a significant move to promote natural farming in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday unveiled a simplified registration form for farmers interested in adopting the practice. The announcement was made during the MLAs' priorities meeting held in Shimla.
The newly introduced form, available both online and offline, aims to facilitate easy enrolment of farmers in natural farming initiatives. "This simplified process will help farmers seamlessly transition into natural farming by providing necessary details about their land, crops, and livestock," Sukhu stated.
The registration forms will be distributed across all Panchayats in the state, generating crucial data about agricultural practices and training needs. "This initiative will give a major push to natural farming in the 2025-26 period," he added.
Highlighting the government's commitment to supporting farmers, Sukhu revealed that Himachal Pradesh recently procured 398.976 metric tonnes of naturally grown maize from 1,508 farmers at ₹30 per kg—the highest Minimum Support Price (MSP) in the country. A similar approach will be followed for naturally cultivated wheat in the upcoming season, with an MSP set at ₹40 per kg.
The initiative aligns with the state’s efforts to encourage sustainable farming practices and enhance farmers' earnings through natural produce.
