Shimla, Feb 2 (PTI) – In a significant policy shift aimed at streamlining faculty recruitment and improving healthcare education, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the state’s decision to establish a common cadre system for all future faculty appointments in government medical colleges and super-specialty institutions.
The move, intended to ensure equity, operational efficiency, and better faculty management, will replace the current college-specific cadre system, which has led to administrative inconsistencies, faculty shortages, and disparities in service conditions, particularly in newly established medical colleges.
Key Benefits of the Common Cadre System
✔ Standardized Recruitment & Transfers – Faculty appointments, career progression, and inter-institutional transfers will now follow a unified framework, ensuring fair and transparent faculty management.✔ Improved Resource Allocation – A centralized system will optimally distribute faculty where they are needed most, addressing shortages in new medical colleges.
✔ Enhanced Career Growth – The reform will introduce a merit-based promotion system, eliminating disparities and fostering a more structured career trajectory for medical educators.
✔ Higher Quality Medical Education & Healthcare – By improving faculty efficiency and training, both medical education and patient care are expected to benefit significantly.
"This initiative will harmonize service conditions, enhance career advancement opportunities, and ultimately strengthen medical education and healthcare services across the state," said CM Sukhu in an official statement.
The decision underscores the state government's commitment to improving public healthcare infrastructure by ensuring well-managed institutions and better faculty retention, ultimately leading to higher-quality medical services for the people of Himachal Pradesh.
