Shimla, March 1: Heavy rains coupled with intense snowfall disrupted normal life across several districts of Himachal Pradesh, causing landslides, roadblocks, and substantial damage to vehicles, particularly in Kullu and Kangra districts.

Massive Landslide Causes Havoc in Kangra

In Kangra district, incessant rains and cloudbursts triggered a significant landslide at Rokaru (Multhan), severely damaging multiple vehicles and endangering at least 12 houses nearby. Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hem Raj confirmed that the affected families have been safely relocated, and relief and restoration operations are actively underway.

One Person Missing Near Shiva Hydropower Project

Authorities reported one person missing near the Shiva Hydropower project in Palampur, Kangra district. An intensive search operation has been initiated to trace the missing individual.

Tribal Pangi Valley Isolated Due to Snowfall

In Chamba district, the tribal Pangi Valley has been entirely cut off due to heavy snowfall. The region is experiencing severe disruptions in electricity and telecommunication services, further impacting daily life.

Severe Infrastructure Damage in Kullu

In Kullu, several houses located along Nallahs and Khuds remain at high risk due to ongoing landslides. The district administration reported that a total of 112 roads were blocked, while 1,646 electricity transformers remain affected, causing significant power disruptions. Additionally, around 125 water supply schemes have been disrupted.

Kullu Deputy Commissioner Tarul Ravesh informed that a landslide at Tohlu Nallah blocked the Kiratpur-Manali National Highway, leaving tourists stranded. Traffic on the Kullu-Manali road is currently being diverted through Naggar. Electricity supplies to key tourist spots, including Manikaran and Manali, have yet to be restored, prompting officials to advise tourists to remain where they are until further notice.
