New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday, dismissing his "Yamuna poisoning" allegation as baseless and accusing him of running a "factory of lies."

Addressing a public rally in Babarpur in support of the BJP candidate, Sarma rebuffed Kejriwal’s claim that the BJP-led Haryana government had mixed poison in Delhi’s water supply. He argued that no Hindu would ever poison another's water, emphasizing that offering water is considered an auspicious act in Hinduism.

"How can a Hindu poison another's water? How will a BJP government in Haryana poison water when its own party leaders in Delhi consume it? Is Prime Minister Narendra Modi drinking poisoned water?" Sarma questioned.

He further claimed that the deteriorating condition of the Yamuna in Delhi was not due to any external factor but a consequence of Kejriwal’s "sins."

Kejriwal’s ‘Yamuna Poisoning’ Allegation Triggers Political Firestorm

On January 27, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP government in Haryana had mixed poison in the Yamuna’s water supply to Delhi. He credited engineers at the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for detecting and preventing a potential disaster.

"Had that water mixed with Delhi’s drinking supply, it could have led to mass genocide," Kejriwal had claimed, further accusing the BJP of attempting to create chaos and blame the AAP government for any resulting casualties.

The Election Commission has since issued two notices to Kejriwal based on a complaint filed by the BJP over these remarks.

‘AAP-da (Disaster) Government Wasted 10 Years’: Sarma

Sarma did not hold back in his criticism of the AAP government, stating at another rally in Adarsh Nagar that Kejriwal’s administration had wasted a decade in Delhi.

He alleged that Kejriwal was making promises of financial aid to Hindu priests only due to the upcoming elections. "Otherwise, he only thinks about maulanas," Sarma claimed, adding that in Assam, he had been promoting education among Muslims, encouraging them to aspire to be engineers and doctors instead of religious clerics.

‘Jail Is Not a Badge of Honour’

Continuing his attack, Sarma accused Kejriwal of misleading people about his time in jail, suggesting that the AAP leader wore it like a badge of honour.

"He acts as if he was jailed during the freedom movement. He should remember that he was in jail due to the liquor policy scam. He should have some shame," Sarma said.

He also mocked Kejriwal’s past statements, pointing out contradictions in his political journey.

"When he was with Anna Hazare, he said he would never contest elections. He also claimed he wouldn’t use government cars or live in government housing. Today, his ‘Sheesh Mahal’ (luxurious residence) is in front of everyone."

Delhi Elections on February 5

The high-stakes battle for the 70-member Delhi Assembly is set for February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8. With both the BJP and AAP ramping up their campaigns, the war of words between top leaders is only intensifying.
