Karachi, February 28: A Hindu youth, Om Prakash Kumar, was reportedly taken away by unidentified individuals moments before he and his family were set to cross the Wagah border for a pilgrimage to India, his sister has alleged.

Nirmala, Kumar’s sister and a doctor by profession, has made a public appeal to Pakistan’s Army Chief and the government, urging them to ensure his safe return. She revealed that the incident occurred on February 21 at the Wagah border immigration office in Lahore, where plainclothes men intercepted her brother, seized his passport, visa documents, and mobile phone, and led him away to an undisclosed location.

“When I inquired and started crying, one of the men told me to take my family back home,” Nirmala recounted in a video message shared by social worker Shiva Kachi, who leads the Hindu rights organisation Pakistan Darawar Ittehad.

The family, residents of Mirpurkhas in Sindh province, was traveling to India for a pilgrimage to the Ganga when Kumar was taken. Despite a week passing since the disappearance, there has been no response from the Pakistani government or relevant authorities.

Sindh province is home to Pakistan’s largest Hindu population, with many members undertaking religious pilgrimages to India annually. However, this incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of religious minorities in the country.

Kumar’s family continues to seek answers and justice, urging authorities to intervene and ensure his safe return.
