HP: Two including an African national arrested with 298 grams of cannabis in Bilaspur

Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, March 3: Two individuals, including a native of Mozambique, were arrested by police on charges of possessing 298.67 grams of cannabis (charas) in Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh.

According to local authorities, the accused have been identified as Sergio Lampayiv Namburate, originally from Mozambique in East Africa, currently residing in Mohali, Punjab, and Rhydum Bisht, also a resident of Mohali.

The arrests took place on Sunday when a police team intercepted their car near the Baloh toll plaza on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway. During a thorough vehicle search, officers uncovered the illicit substance, resulting in the immediate arrest of both suspects.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madan Dhiman confirmed that a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against both individuals. The police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain further details surrounding the crime.

The seizure highlights ongoing police vigilance and efforts to crack down on drug trafficking in the region.
