Dharamshala, May 17 – Girls have again outperformed boys in the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) Class 12 examinations. Of the 75 students featured in the top-10 merit list released on Saturday, 61 were girls while only 14 were boys, underscoring a continuing trend of female academic excellence in the state.
Mehak Emerges as State Topper Across All Streams
Mehak, a St D R Public Secondary School student from Gagret (Una district), secured the highest score across the science, arts, and commerce streams. She scored an impressive 486 out of 500 marks, achieving 97.2% in the science stream and claiming the top position in the state.Two students, Khushi from Dhauladhar Public Senior Secondary School, Sham Nagar (Dharamshala) and Jahnavi Thakur of Bharti Vidyapeeth Public Senior Secondary School, Baijnath, shared the second position with 96.6% each.
Arts Stream Toppers
Ankita from Government Senior Secondary School claimed the top rank in the arts stream with 483 marks (96.6%). She was followed by Nirdosh Kumari of New Era School of Sciences, Chhatri (Kangra), who scored 96%, and Jyoti Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School, Jalari (Hamirpur), who secured 95.8%.Commerce Stream Toppers
Payal Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School, Chanour (Kangra) stood first in the commerce stream with 96.4%. Shagun (95.6%) and Ananya Thakur (95.4%), both from Government Senior Secondary School, Chauki Maniar (Una), secured the second and third positions, respectively.Overall Performance and Statistics
Announcing the results, HPBOSE Chairman and Deputy Commissioner of Kangra, Hemraj Bairwa, revealed that the overall pass percentage in 2025 rose significantly to 83.16%, compared to 73.76% in 2024.A total of 86,373 students appeared for the Class 12 examinations held from March 4 to March 29 across 2,300 centres in Himachal Pradesh. Among them:
- 71,591 students passed
- 5,847 students were placed in the compartment category
- 8,581 students failed
This year's results highlight not only a marked improvement in the pass percentage but also reinforce the continuing academic strides made by female students across the state.
