New Delhi, India – On February 3, 2025, The British School New Delhi had the distinct honor of welcoming His Royal Highness Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, for a special visit. As the long-standing patron of The International Award for Young People (IAYP), part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, the Duke’s visit celebrated the significant role the program plays in shaping young lives worldwide.

Founded in 1956, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award has become a global initiative aimed at helping young people build essential life skills, empowering them to achieve their fullest potential. Prince Edward, who has played a pivotal leadership role in the award's growth for four decades, interacted with students from various schools across India who presented their IAYP projects during his visit.

The Duke took particular pleasure in engaging with students, learning about the positive impacts their IAYP work has had on communities across the nation. In addition to these inspiring discussions, His Royal Highness was treated to vibrant music and dance performances by students from The British School New Delhi, showcasing the creativity and talent nurtured within the school’s diverse student body.

Vanita Uppal OBE, Director of The British School, expressed her pride in hosting such a momentous occasion, stating, “It is my honour and privilege to welcome His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, to The British School to celebrate the programme he has championed for four decades. Since we adopted the award in 2007, I have seen countless students undertake projects that combine service, learning, and leadership.
