Srinagar, Feb 27 – Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi, the father-in-law of Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, passed away in Srinagar on Wednesday night at the age of 80.
A statement from Farooq’s office confirmed his demise, attributing it to a prolonged illness. "With profound grief and sadness, we announce the passing of Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi, father-in-law of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq," the statement read.
Masoodi's funeral prayers will be held at Jama Masjid in the old city on Thursday afternoon, following which he will be laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Khrew, Pulwama district.
A doctor by profession, Masoodi had left Kashmir in 1974 to pursue further studies in the United States and returned to the valley after 28 years.
