Case Filed Against Management and Excavator Operator for Unauthorized Tree Felling in Thane City
In a crackdown on illegal tree cutting, Thane Police have registered a case against four management members of a real estate firm and an earth-excavating machine operator in Maharashtra's Thane city. The accused allegedly cut down nine trees without obtaining necessary permissions from civic authorities.The incident occurred on March 4 at a plot near a housing complex located in the Bhayanderpada area. According to an official from Kasarwadavli Police Station, the accused failed to seek approval from the Thane Municipal Corporation before removing the trees.
The complaint was officially filed on Friday by the Thane Municipal Corporation's garden inspector, prompting police to register the case. Charges have been framed under the provisions of the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees (Amendment) Act, 2021, and the Maharashtra Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1995.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter, highlighting increased vigilance against unauthorized environmental damage in urban regions.
