Southern West Bengal to Sizzle Under Heatwave Conditions Till May 15

On Monday, Kolkata, May 12 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a dual weather forecast for West Bengal, warning of heatwave conditions in the southern districts and heavy rainfall in the sub-Himalayan northern belt for the next few days.

According to the IMD, several districts in southern West Bengal, including Paschim Bardhaman, Bankura, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur, and Birbhum, are likely to experience heatwave conditions at one or two places until May 15. The north Bengal district of Malda may also face similar conditions during this period.

The department noted that daytime temperatures across the state will not significantly change over the next four to five days. However, a gradual drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius is expected.

Heavy Rain Forecast in Northern Sub-Himalayan Districts

In contrast to the sweltering heat in the south, the northern sub-Himalayan region of the state is expected to receive heavy rainfall till May 15. This includes the districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar.

The IMD attributed the rainfall activity to moisture and a trough extending from central Bihar to south Jharkhand.

Residents across West Bengal are advised to remain cautious and follow weather updates, as extreme heat and heavy rain can significantly impact daily life and safety.
