Jammu, Feb 3 (PTI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday emphasized the necessity for the INDIA alliance to engage in structured discussions regarding its future course, warning that internal divisions could undermine its broader objectives.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in Jammu, Abdullah reiterated the importance of unity within the opposition bloc, especially amid contesting interests among alliance partners.

"I have said this before, and I will say it again—someday, the INDIA alliance must sit down and deliberate on our strategy moving forward. If we continue to splinter like this, it will not be good for the country," he stated.

The chief minister acknowledged that while the alliance was formed to challenge the BJP, its effectiveness in Parliament had been noteworthy. "Even if we have not fully succeeded, we have significantly strengthened the opposition in Parliament. If we continue to break apart, it won’t be a good sign," he cautioned.

On Delhi Assembly Elections and AAP's Prospects

Abdullah refrained from making specific predictions about the outcome of the Delhi Assembly elections, suggesting that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) could repeat its past performance.

"I don’t get time from Jammu and Kashmir, so you tell me what is happening in Delhi. I don’t know who will win or lose, but we will find out the day after tomorrow," he remarked.

He urged patience regarding the electoral outcome, stating, "Let the voting happen first and results come out. Then we will analyze. Who knows, like in the past, AAP may make a clean sweep. No one can say for sure until the people have voted."

On Union Budget and Tax Relief Measures

Addressing the tax relief measures announced in the Union Budget, Abdullah welcomed the initiative but underscored the importance of proper implementation.

"Income tax relief is a good thing. Some of the other announcements have the potential to benefit the middle class. But it all depends on implementation. It is one thing to have intentions; now we will wait for execution," he noted.

He further elaborated that if the relief measures successfully benefit the middle class, increased spending could provide a boost to the economy.

"When spending increases, the economy strengthens, and that is what we want to see," he added.

Abdullah’s remarks underscore the ongoing challenges faced by the INDIA alliance in maintaining cohesion while also highlighting economic concerns that could shape the political landscape in the coming months.
