India and China Exchange Congratulatory Messages on 75th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties

Beijing, April 1 — Marking a significant diplomatic milestone, the leaders of India and China exchanged congratulatory messages on Tuesday as the two nations commemorated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of their bilateral relations.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun addressed the media in Beijing, stating, “Today marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China.”

According to Guo, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian President Droupadi Murmu exchanged formal messages, as did Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The symbolic exchange comes amid continuing efforts to recalibrate the relationship following a prolonged period of tension triggered by the eastern Ladakh military standoff that began over four years ago.

Highlighting the broader context of the relationship, Guo said, “Both countries are ancient civilisations, major developing countries, and important members of the Global South. Both are at a crucial stage of modernisation.”

The diplomatic messages and shared acknowledgment of their long-standing ties suggest a tentative step toward engagement and normalization, despite unresolved issues on the border front.
