Islamabad, May 10 – In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire following a sharp escalation in hostilities, according to announcements made by top officials from both nations and the United States.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the development on Saturday via a post on social media platform X. “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Dar wrote.
The ceasefire comes shortly after US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to declare the success of Washington’s mediation efforts. “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump stated.
He further praised the diplomatic maturity of both countries, writing, “Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The US-brokered deal was finalized hours after both nations launched attacks on each other’s military installations, marking one of the most serious escalations in recent years.
This agreement is being viewed as a crucial step towards de-escalation and restoring stability in the region.
